Instructor
Can an AI behave like an instructor rather than a question-and-answer interface?

EXPERIMENT / POC 0.1
Exploring what happens when an AI instructor becomes part of the learning experience—not just a source of answers.
flight trAIner is an experimental AI-assisted flight training system. The goal is not to make an AI that simply answers aviation questions, but to explore what it means for an AI instructor to participate in an actual learning experience.
The simulator provides the environment. The student flies the aircraft. The AI CFI is a simulated instructor; the experiment explores how it can observe, teach, and respond as a lesson unfolds.
Can an AI behave like an instructor rather than a question-and-answer interface?
Can the instructor maintain enough context to make a lesson feel coherent?
Can instruction adapt to what the student is actually doing in the simulator?
SYSTEM DESIGN
The engineering focus is on making an instructional experience that can be tested and improved in small steps. Each demonstration helps reveal where the experience works and where it still needs attention.
I direct the requirements, architecture, and testing, with AI tools contributing reasoning and implementation assistance.
Flight trAIner is developed through structured, incremental sprints. Each sprint establishes specific objectives, implementation boundaries, and acceptance criteria.
Architecture decisions, experiments, test results, and lessons learned are documented throughout development. Working demonstrations provide evidence of progress, while unresolved issues remain visible rather than being treated as completed capabilities.
AI-assisted implementation is part of the process, but engineering judgment, testing, and continuous evaluation determine what gets accepted.
CURRENT FOCUS
Flight trAIner has demonstrated an end-to-end AI-assisted engine-start lesson using a simulated aircraft environment. The instructor observed simulator state, evaluated student actions, generated instructional guidance, and delivered that guidance through spoken interaction.
This milestone validates an important part of the architecture. The project remains experimental, with substantial work ahead in instructional depth, reliability, and real-world simulator integration.
The goal is to develop an increasingly capable AI-assisted learning experience—not to replace certified flight instruction.
flight trAIner is not FAA-certified flight instruction, a certified flight instructor, or an approved training device. It does not provide loggable flight time or replace instruction from a qualified human instructor.
flight trAIner is also an experiment in becoming a better AI engineer: taking ideas about agents, context, software architecture, and interaction and turning them into a working system.
